| Westlaw® Public Access Guidelines |
The University of Colorado Law Library offers Westlaw on one public access computer. The computer is the center computer terminal on the counter located near the Reference Desk.
-
The computer is available on a first come, first served basis for a period of 60 minutes.
-
If no one is waiting to use the computer, a patron may continue using Westlaw for more than 60 minutes.
-
If another patron is waiting, the first patron may continue using the computer:
* for the remainder of their 60 minutes, or
* for a further 15 minutes in order to close their research.
- Please sign in for Westlaw research on the clip board provided next to the Westlaw computer terminal. If you do not sign in and another patron requests use of the terminal, we will assume that you have been using the terminal for 60 minutes and only allow you a further 15 minutes of use.
Our public access Westlaw subscription contains 198 separate databases, including:
* Colorado State and Federal Cases (CO-CS-ALL)
* Colorado Lawyer (COLAW)
* Colorado Statutes Annotated from 1989 to present (CO-ST-ANN)
* Colorado Court Rules (CO-RULES)
* Federal Rules (US-RULES)
* Colorado Administrative Code (CO-ADC)
* 10th Circuit Cases (CTA10)
* United States Code Annotated (USCA)
* KeyCite
For a complete list of all 198 databases, click here.
Please note that much of the same content is available from other databases accessible from any computer in the law library, especially Lexis Academic and HeinOnline. Colorado statutes are publicly available from any internet computer via the Colorado Legislature's web site.
Printing is available for 10 cents per page and requires the purchase of a printing card for one dollar.

Connecting from outside the law building
Most databases are available to CU affiliates from off campus. The first step to using databases from off-campus is to activate the CU VPN client on your computer. You will be prompted to do this if you need to. [why?] Some databases are only available to law school affiliates, so you will need to visit the law library if you are not a law student or faculty/staff member. Non-law users will not be able to use these databases from outside of the law building. A few databases need an institutional password to login - contact the Reference Desk (303-492-3522) for details. Finally, a few databases are only available by personal password to law affiliates.
